Construction tape is a thin plastic tape, typically made of PVC, used for the application of adhesives to carpentry, drywall, and masonry walls. Construction tape is most commonly used in conjunction with construction paper and a pencil or chalkboard eraser to create temporary outlines on which to draw pictures, as well as diagrams of construction projects. Construction tape is also commonly found in tool boxes or bags that hold a variety of small tools and gadgets. Construction tape can either be a film-backed reinforced cloth or unwoven cloth version that may be textured for grip on smooth surfaces such as glass.
Uses of construction tape
- The most common use of construction tape is to cover and protect bare wood, such as plywood in the construction of plywood building projects.
- In the creation of basic diagrams and diagrams, where a pencil or chalk eraser is used on an un-tapered piece of paper to create outlines on which to draw.
- In the construction of cardboard backing for electrical boxes, cabinets, and other similar constructions where taping wires and other components are needed.
- Constuction tape may be found in a variety of places in many household formularies: it is commonly used as a wrapping for packages that need protection such as rugs or delicate items for transport.
- In the construction of red tape for binding documents and sticking to non-porous surfaces.
- Used in conjunction with poster board and markers or crayons for projects for infants, such as those found in a daycare programs.
Particular types of constuction tapes available on the market include;
a. reinforced cloth
This type is typical of a paper backed cloth version. This type of construction tape is often used to mount posters or printed material on boards, walls, or flat surfaces in general.
b. Unreinforced Cloth
This type of construction tape is similar to regular cloth-backed types like the reinforced type except that it has no paper backing. This construction tape can be used for most taping tasks with the exception of mounting posters or documents in airtight applications where the adhesives must be completely sealed from humidity and moisture exposure.
c. Vinyl-backed Cloth
Similar to the unreinforced cloth construction tape, this type of construction tape is a cloth version, except that it has a plastic or vinyl backing. This type of construction tape can be used for nearly all taping tasks, and offers the advantage of being able to adhere over itself without the support of an additional flat surface.
d. Patterned Application Cloth Tape
This type of constuction tape is often used in conjunction with wall paper samples and texts; it is often textured for better adhesion to tiles or other smooth surfaces. The pattern on this type of construction tape also makes it great for use in arts and crafts projects by children.
Construction tape can also be found in a number of colors and patterns. The different colors and patterns of construction tape are most often used to denote special functions, such as the different colors of electrical tapes.
